Functions of the Department of Environment

  • Motivate / compel the concerned organization to take pollution control measures including pollution survey of industrial establishments, identification of polluting industrial establishments and take necessary legal action by conducting mobile court against the person / organization violating environmental protection laws and regulations as required.
  • Industrial factory survey, identification of polluting industrial establishments and taking necessary steps to control the pollution of the concerned establishments.
  • Receive and deal with environmental pollution related complaints.
  • Provide necessary clearance and audit of environmental clearance on the basis of applications for newly established factories, projects and multi-storey buildings.
  • Conduct mobile court for survey of harmful fumes of vehicles and disciplinary action against polluting vehicles.
  • Take effective measures as per rules to prevent noise pollution.
  • File cases in Environmental Court, Special Magistrate Court, conduct proceedings and proceedings.
  • Conduct market inspections and mobile courts to stop production, use and marketing of banned polythene shopping bags.
